The Grange is a fraternal organization for farmers and rural communities, founded in 1867 to give agricultural families a shared social, educational, and political voice. Local chapters (individually called "Granges," meeting in a "Grange hall") historically organized everything from crop-price advocacy to community suppers.
A number of small Connecticut fairs are still literally organized by a local Grange rather than an agricultural society or fire department — expect a smaller, community-run event built around home-arts and produce judging rather than a big commercial midway.
