The Grange is a fraternal organization for farmers and rural communities, founded in 1867 to give agricultural families a shared social, educational, and political voice. Local chapters (individually called "Granges," meeting in a "Grange hall") historically organized everything from crop-price advocacy to community suppers.
Seven small Connecticut fairs are run by a local Grange, in Cheshire, Wilton, Fairfield, Sterling, West Simsbury, Riverton, and Winchester Center. They centered on home-arts and produce judging, and none listed a midway. The Lyme Grange also runs the larger Hamburg Fair, which had a midway.
